2016 has been the craziest year I’ve ever experienced! So many people this year have asked me if we are living in the “Matrix”. My answer to them has been “Maybe…I don’t know anymore.” The Chicago Cubs won the World Series in 7 games, coming back 3 -1 in the series against the Cleveland Indians. It’s their first championship in 108 years! The last time they won it was 1908! For the longest time, the running joke was that since they last won the World Series 108 years ago and technically nobody was alive to see it, did it really happen? 😉
Numerous notable cultural icons and celebrities died in 2016, including David Bowie, Prince, Muhammad Ali, Arnold Palmer, Gene Wilder, Leonard Cohen, Gordie Howe, Nancy Reagan, and Garry Shandling just to name a few. However, the biggest news of 2016 is that Donald J. Trump was elected the 45th President of the United States on November 8, 2016. YES! DONALD TRUMP, the Real Estate tycoon/businessman turned Reality TV star is our new PRESIDENT!!
I’m a mentalist, but there is no way I could of predict this. Half the country is rejoicing and the other half have taken to the streets to protest. He defeated Democratic nominee and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by running a presidential campaign that angered and disgusted many and at the same time motivated and persuaded a lot of new people who felt their voices weren’t being heard for years to go to the polls and vote for him. Everyone in the media gave Hillary a 80-90% chance of winning the election, nobody gave Trump a chance, but he did it and like it or not, he did it his way.
He won by breaking the Democrat’s “blue states firewall” in the Midwest and turning them “red”. For the first time since 1988, states like Michigan and Pennsylvania turned “red” and tip the election to the GOP and Trump. The GOP also won control of the House and Senate.
This election was a very nasty and unusual one compared to past elections. The country is more divided than ever before. The “right” dislikes the “left” and vice versa. Nobody wants to talk to each other. It seems like we all want to yell at each other on social media.
As an entertainer and a mentalist, I have the unique ability to meet a lot of interesting people from all walks of life. Conservatives, Liberals, Independents, Straight, Gay, Trans, Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, etc. Performing for all these different demographics, I believe the majority of people are good people and we have more in common with each than we know. Everybody wants a safe place to live, a job that will allow them to provide for their family, great schools for their children, safe communities, access to affordable healthcare, etc.
Trump like all politicians made some crazy and outrageous promises during his campaigns. Now that he is elected President, the whole country and the whole world is watching to see what he will do next. Only time will tell what kind of President Donald Trump will be.
